  As-Salaam alaikum,

Even when we have cause to cry, we are to follow the pattern and/or Sunnah of the Noble Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam. How should we do that? one may ask. Imam Ibn Qayyim, may Allah be Merciful to him, tells us exactly how in book, 'ZAD-UL-MA'AD' where he said that:--

"When the Prophet (Peace be upon him) cried, it was similar to his laughing, without exaggeration or audible sound. Likewise, he did
not weep out loud. His eyes would get tearful, until they became wet and the sound of grief could be heard from his chest. He used
to cry when feeling mercy for the dead or dying, for fear and compassion for his Ummah and for fright from Allah. He cried on hearing
the Qur'an being recited for eagerness, love and respect for the Qur'an, while feeling fear and fright [from Allah]."
